How to Shop For Used Records
I bought my first record when I was in high school. I found a copy of "Masters of Reality" at the local record store while I was browsing. It was a import, and cheap. I didn't know what I was getting into but I figured I had nothing to lose.
The record turned out to be pretty good and I liked it a lot. After that, I started looking for records at used record stores. I loved buying them from used record stores. It was like a treasure hunt. You never knew what you were going to find. You might find an old Beatles album or some great obscure psychedelic music. One of my favorite things about used record stores is the smell. I'm not talking about the musty, moldy smell that records can sometimes have. I mean the fresh smell that records have when they are brand new.

Make sure your turntable can play it
You need to use a needle that is the same size as your record’s groove. For example, if you are playing a 78 rpm record, use a needle that is no smaller than a 45 rpm. Clean the stylus before playing the record. A clean stylus will give you better results. Don’t get too close to the record. Turn off the needle safety.
Judge your record by its cover
I have a few of my own records, but I still haven’t learned how to tell them apart. Here are the rules: – If you see a record with an actual cover, it’s a new record. – If you see a record with a picture or logo on the cover, it’s used. – If you see a record that has no label, or a label that’s in poor condition, it’s most likely used.
